First Snow Countryside Landscape Original Oil Painting

sold
"Strength"
6x6"
oil on panel
orig.post 2015

We have only had one snowfall so far and that was before Thanksgiving.  We have been enjoying the warm weather, especially knowing it wont stick around.  Fortunately I took a few pictures of our first snowfall.  This mighty old tree stood strong in the cold and wind.  I should know this, I think this tree is a sycamore not an oak, but I could be wrong.  It was kind of scrubby, looked like it had a rough beginning many years ago for it had a few restarts shooting up from the ground.

The Magic of Christmas for Child Original Oil Painting

"The Magic of Christmas"
oil on panel
6x6"
2015

I didn't realize before having children that when you do there is immense joy in seeing Christmas through there eyes.  Such a gift!

We always decorate the tree together and as the kids get older we reminisce over the ornaments we have accumulated over the years.  When we are finally finished finding the perfect spot on the tree  (or at this point any open spot left) we sit back and turn the room lights off and enjoy the sparkling tree remembering years past and of loved ones near and far.
God Bless you and yours this Christmas Season.

Cows Grazing in Clusters Farm Life Original Oil Painting

sold
"Clusters"
2015
oil on panel
6x6"

The cows were like dots on the field.  I tried to keep their shapes simplified.  I liked how the dappled sunlight through the clouds highlighted their lovely hides.  The greens in the field are a much brighter yellow green than they appear on my laptop.  The colors look right on my cell phone.  To get a good digital image can drive one nuts since this blog is viewed in different ways.  My laptop is old and outdated so hopefully you are seeing a truer version on your electronics.

If you haven't noticed, I added the year 2009 to my Gallery Sale.  Now there are many more paintings available for a special price of $85.  This price includes postage in the U.S.  purchase informaton can be found at the right side of this blog.

Email me if you  have any questions.

Contemporary Impressionism Original Daily Oil Painting November Sky Series

"Grand Exit"
oilon panel

The sky was changing within minutes.  One of the best shows I've seen.  Here above the trees the sky was violet and purple and the last warm hues of the sun slipped into darkness.

Contemporary Impressionism November Skies Dramatic Clouds Original Oil Painting

sold
"Strength"
oil on panel

Another incredible sunset in November.  I actually took a picture of this sky on my way home.  I had to pull off the road to take a few.  I am glad I did.  If you you didn't see yesterday's post it is from the same evening and yet it was changing so quickly.

Horse First Snow Original Oil Painting

The weatherman is saying we may see our first snow this weekend.  I was drawn to the complimentary colors of this cold day of blues and violets in the low light of the sun and the warm rusty reds of this sweetheart.

Equestrian Painting Horseback Riding Original Oil Impressionism

sold
"Riding"
oil on panel
6x6"

I tried to keep ths scene simplified but when drawing/painting horses there is only so much simplifying you can do.  The subject matter has to be readable.  I went round and round a bit to make this simplified and now I am worn out!  However I am not defeated, I would like to try some more.
Have a Great weekend.

Horse and Buggy Amish Country original oil painting

sold
"A Way of Life"
oil on panel
6x6"

The paint on this is still wet so there may be some shiny areas in this picture.

I grew up near Amish country so it was not  uncommon to see a horse and buggy traveling down the road.  I have many pictures that I have taken but I borrowed this image from morgue.file  free for creative uses.  It caught my eye so I couldn't wait to paint it.  Now I will have to look through my photos for more inspiration.

The Girls Enjoying the Sunshine Chicken Painting

I never tire of painting chickens.  They are always moving so they are always a study on shapes.  Their color and plumage is beautiful.  Sweet and a little silly!

Colorful Rooster Painting Contemporary Impressionism in Oil

"Mr. G"
oil on panel
2015
6x6"

So back to today's painting,  I had a blast with Mr. G's glorious color.  With much effort, this is the closest I could get to the true color of the painting.  You will have to trust me it is even better in person.  The greens are much richer ugh!

Beer Garden End of Summer Festival Figures Original

"People Watching"
oil on panel
6x6"

I love the high contrast of the setting sun on the figures.  With the sun crowning the images shapes are simplified and almost abstract in places.  There is more to a painting when it lets the viewer connect the dots and discover what the painting has to say.  Making the experience interactive.

Mallard Ducks Original Daily Oil Painting

I do not remember ever painting ducks.  How did that happen?  I love birds and have painted countless chickens but never ducks.  They were a joy and I will be painting more!

Touring the Countryside Cycling Contemporary Oil Painting

Sold
"Map My Ride"
oil on panel
6x6"

Here we are the first week of November and we are experiencing beautiful warm weather.  This could be the last hurah for our favorite outdoor activities.   I am hoping to make the best of it.  Hiking, biking and painting outside.  I still have to clean up my garden so I am thankful I can do it while I can still feel my fingers while the temps are so high.

This painting is a throwback from a few years ago already.  I was so happy with the chunky, bold, confident brushwork.  Yes I know I feel a little egotistical saying confident but trust me confident, bold brushwork is a constant effort.

Streets of Paris Art Gallery Original Oil Paintings

"Holiday Shopping"
Paris
oil on panel
6x6"

I loved the mood of the wet, gray streets during the Holidays.  An intimate view of people walking along the little shops.

What a happy change of pace.  I found a wonderful resource that other artists are raving about.  Mourgefile.com it is a website with thousands of copyright free images.  People kindly download their images for all to see and freely use.   Now, I don't  want to use these often for I feel it is very important for me to paint what I live and experience for myself.

Harvest Sunrise Autumn Landscape Original Art

Not for Sale
"Harvest Sunrise"
oil on panel
6x6"

The sunrise was so beautiful this morning.   The mottled lavender clouds and the sunlight breaking through over the dried fields.  This was one if those lucky moments when the paintbrush seems to go on autopilot and paint from the heart.  Does not happen often.  After painting intensely all day on some difficult subject matter I started to clean up for the day.  My son and husband ran out to pick up a movie and carry out.   I knew I didn't have much time but I was in the mood to just paint for fun.  Glad I did because this one was fun!  My husband ended up running into a friend and and chatted so I had a little more time to finish up.

So from the archives is this little guy that is still available.

Fall Foliage Autumn Landscape Original Oil Painting

October
oil on panel
6x6"

We have had a dry fall.  This beautiful time of year goes by too quickly.

All that color can be overwhelming when painting fall landscapes.  It is tempting to go overboard trying to capture the amazing hues.  Restraint goes a long way.  If one is standing in front of a painting where every square inch is equally "blaring" in detail and color you risk overload and they move on.  Pick special areas to highlight the beauty and have the rest of the painting subtly support it.  I ran out of time to get a better picture of this I will post another that is not blurry when I get a chance.

Main Street Small Town America Original Oil Painting

"Main Street"
oil on panel
6x6"

There are so many of these small towns nestled in the heartland.  I never feel too far from home when driving through these towns even if I have never been there before.  They all have the same charm.  Some are run down and all but abandoned but many are still thriving.
