Ever Feel Like the Sky is Trying to Tell Us Something? Contemporary Impressionism Oil Painting

Ever Feel Like the Sky is Trying to Tell Us Something?

oil on panel
6x6"

No I am not wearing my tin foil hat.  But truly, think about it.  They sky is ever changing.  Sometimes quite dramatically.  Quite the show on a regular basis.  When I look at the sky, especially for us land locked folks, I imagine it's vastness like the ocean above us.

Nanu Nanu!  May the Force be with You!  I want to believe!  live long and prosper!  to infinity and beyond!  for my geekly friends  ;)

11x14 Plein Air Oil Painting Spring Mill Historic Pioneer Village

The Mercantile
11x14"
oil on Raymar Canvas Board

I enjoyed painting at the Spring Mill State Park over the weekend.  This historic pioneer village was established in the early 1800's.  Natural springs enabled the saw mill, grist mill and wool mill toryn year round since the water never froze.  The village even had a distillery.  I really
enjoyed painting on location.

Hiking Cave River Valley Plein Air Oil Painting

Hiking Cave River Valley

We went camping and my husband insisted I bring my easel.  I usually bring a sketch book or little water color set but this is a family trip and I didn't want to focus on me painting.   My family is so supportive.   Thank you Love!

The colors in real life are so much more than any camera can relay.  I have painted plein air for years but I tend to spend more time in the studio due to convenience.  So getting out and plein air painting is such a valuable link to success in the studio.

October Sun Riding the Rails Railroad Tracks Landscape Oil Painting

"October Sun Riding the Rails"

I cross these tracks many days in a week and have painted quite a few paintings from this area.  The tracks are like a streak of light on the open field.

Today I worked with layers of color in the clouds while trying to avoid getting muddy colors.

The greens of summer are turning to a lovely warm auburn.  This time is brief before the grays of winter.

The clouds were mesmerizing last night. The fading sun turned the landscape a beautiful blue green. Of course, I couldn't wait to paint it. Hope you are enjoying your weekend!

Autumn Blaze Sunset Landscape Oil Painting Impressionism

Sold
"Autumn Blaze"
oil on panel
6x6"

The October sunsets have been so crisp and clear.  I had to stop my car and take some pictures last night while driving home.

I have noticed my laptop monitor does not do some of my paintings justice.  The colors are faded.  My smartphone images are much truer to the original paintings.  Ugh.  I will have to check the settings on my monitor.  Please keep this in mind when you are looking at digital images.  They may vary from one to the next.

The early morning light set the soft palette for this little painting.  I would like to think you can feel the cool wet air on this early Autumn day.

Heidi Malott Contemporary Impressionism Original Daily Oil Painting

"Intersecting Lines"
oil on panel
6x6"

My daughter and I were on our way to the movies and as I pulled up to an intersection I noticed the sun on the clouds.  I handed my phone to her without saying a word.  She proceeded to snap pics for me the whole way there.  You could say this happens often, even my 8 year old knows this protocol :D  It's a family effort.  Thanks kids!

Contemporary Impressionism Landscape Oil Painting Heidi Malott

"Driving into the Night"
oil on panel

The "strange" evening light made some unique colors in the landscape.  I like how the low light simplifies the details and the shapes become almost flat and abstract.

A change of pace for subject matter.  I like how the lines in the cliffs mirror the shapes of the sails.

Orange Poppy Garden Impressionism Original Oil Painting

"Wild Girls"

These wild girls were growing along the highway in a small town nearby.

I really enjoy the orange next to the grayed greens.
