A perfect day for the beach.  From our Spring travels.

The kids are off school for the summer so I am still figuring out the best time to paint.  Early mornings seem to be best but I just set up n easel on the screen porch so that may be helpful also.

That beautiful moment when the sun fades and the brightest stars and planets become visible.   

I always wanted to be an artist but considered being a surgical nurse or an astronomer, hmm...quite the variety!  I am drawn to the stars like some are to the ocean.  I find peace, comfort and a closeness to our creator.  Looking at the stars makes one's worries feel much smaller and less significant.

Anyway, this painting seemed to paint itself.  I was really in the moment.  I wish that could happen more often then again it wouldn't be so special if it did.

Summer is here and the waterbugs are out.  I actually had this photo hanging in the cloud for about a year and finally getting around to painting it.  This reference photo is from a challenge over at Daily Paintworks.  I love the complimentary colors of sun-kissed skin in the cool waters.  The paint is still wet so there is some glare, I will re-post a better pic when it dries.

Peonies by the garden shed.  The morning sun was filtering through the trees creating a beautiful dappled light.  This painting pairs nicely with the painting I posted yesterday.

A very sweet neighbor gave me starts from her gorgeous peonies.  Their blooms are so big and lovely.  They fade too quickly but I think that reminds me to appreciate them more.

A sweet young boy runs to see who gets a point in a game of bocce ball.

On mother's day we set up a badminton set for the day.  The birdies were a bit mangled and flying in all directions.  The older kids decided to the store to get new birdies.  They came home so excited, they found a bocce ball set on clearance!  We played all afternoon.

I call these my chunky paintings.   A simplified design with bold color and big brushstrokes.  This scene is full of whimsy due to the big clouds rolling through.

This painting is in the raw.  I used the color of the un-primed panel as part of the painting.  I have a few of these in my collection and just love the effect.  The panel is sanded and I have some of these paintings that are 10 years old and have held up as well as primed surfaces.  I like the violet light of the hazy early light.
