Chicago Theater Original Oil Painting Heidi Malott

sold
Theater
oil on panel

I squinted my eyes and focused on painting shapes.  It was a fun process and good exercise in painting what I see and fighting my mind's eye or what our brain tells us what we see.

Cosmos Flower Garden Original Art Heidi Malott

sold
"Cosmos"
oil on panel
6x6"

Cosmos, what a cool name for a flower.   They are actually in the sunflower family.  (see my post from yesterday)

Having Spring fever, these were a treat to paint.   Cosmos were the first flower I ever started from seed.  I got them from a lovely neighbor back when I was going to college.  They are so dainty looking yet very hardy.  The great thing is they re-seed themselves and come back every year in abundance.

I miss having Cosmos, I will have to find a good spot for some this year.

I did this painting a couple summers ago.  Wow, that is hard to believe!

Vineyard Art Original Oil Painting Contemporary Impressionism Heidi Malott

sold
"Best Vines"
oil on panel
6x6"

After a long gray Winter, I am relishing in  this warm, colorful palette.  I could set up my easel and paint on these dreamy hills of this vineyard for days on end.

While painting this, I thought of what a nice piece this would be for that girlfriend that is a wine lover.  Like me haha!  Maybe I should barter for wine.  Just kidding!  Sort of.

Mother and Son Beach Painting Original Artwork Heidi Malott

"Mom with Her Little One"

I love watching people strolling up and down the beach.  This sweet little boy and his mother is no exception.  I liked how they were silhouetted instead of detailed.

Plein Air Spring Landscape Original Impressionism Oil Painting

sold
"Spring Brisk"
oil on panel
6x6"

Such a mild winter.  We are already starting to see some green pop.  Hopefully we wont have any hard freezes that could harm the buds.  I think the brisk weather and the fact that I haven't painted outside in a while made this painting quite "brisk".  Looking forward to getting out again soon, but not today with the 60mph winds.

Landscape Oil Painting Original Impressionism Heidi Malott

"Purple"
oil on panel
6x6"

This morning I was putting some dry paintings into storage.  Of course I was supposed to be painting but I was feeling rusty and decided to stall.  Besides my studio is a mess and I needed to make room so I could focus.  Anyway, I came across this little guy that I did at the start of the new year but never posted.  So, here it is.  By the way I did actually start painting eventually.  I will post those later this

Contemporary Landscape Midwest Fields Original Oil Painting Heidi Malott

"Day in Motion"
oil on panel
6x6"

Surprisingly I snuck in some studio time on Sunday afternoon.  Then, I went outside and attempted to run off all those Christmas cookies I enjoyed among other comfort foods while hibernating the last few months.
