Contemporary Impressionism Summer Driving Original Art

"Summer Driving"
Oil
primed masonite
6x6"

I snapped this shot on a hot summer day last week.  We were on our way to a swimmin' hole to cool down.  I wanted to keep the feeling of the motion from cruising down the back roads in a convertible of course.  So I painted this alla prima (all at once) with lively brushstrokes and bold colors of a sunny summer day.

Blue Heron Wetland Painting Original Impressionism

sold
"Blue Heron"
Oil/panel
6x6"

Did you see the egret painting I did a couple days ago?  Well I saw this guy nearby.  He was quietly in search of lunch along the treeline.  I really could have sat there longer watching the birds walking through the tall grasses and flying in and out.  Good for the soul.

Impressionism Rural Alla Prima Oil Painting

"Rural Impressions"
6x6" oil
primed masonite panel

The day was bright and clear and the clouds were moving quickly.  I knew I had to paint this rather quickly to capture the moment and keep the mood lively and fresh.

Another road trip painting along the lush Midwest landscape in July.

Egrets Along Eagle Marsh Wetlands Original Art

"Egrets along the Trail"

I guess this is the summer of rain for us.  I lost track of how many inches we have had after 15 inches in 30 days.  Between rain/storm showers we sneaked in a bicycle ride along the local trails.  Every thing is so lush.  I don't remember seeing so many wildflowers.  I had to stop and take pictures when I saw egrets in the tall grasses.  Did I mention the humidity was about 100%?

I used a new color on my palette today that really kicked my colors up a notch.  Do you see it?

Red Barn Brick Farmhouse Original Oil Paintings

sold
"Welcome Home"
6x6"
oil/primed masonite

Every time I drive by this homestead I imagine having this awesome barn.  It has a loft with huge swing open doors in one end, an incredible place for  a studio. The evening sun was casting long shadows and the deep blues and greens complimented the warm reds of the barn  and brick farmhouse.

Impressionist Landscape After the Rain

"After the Rain"
6x6" oil
Midwest landscapes are never boring to me.  The vast view is ever-changing.   After a summer rainstorm the clouds broke up just in time for the beautiful glimpse of sunlight before it set.

Country Lane Landscape Oil Painting

"Country Lane"
6x6"
oil/primed masonite

Local farmstead in the early morning.  Another lesson in using thoughtful brushstrokes throughout.  Lay it in once and move on.  Keeping it fresh.

Pier 60 Clearwater Beach Painting Florida

Pier 60
6x6"
Oil/masonite

The white sands of Clearwater beach were actually darker than the sky at dusk.  During the day the sand is much brighter than the sky.

Clearwater Beach Florida Painting Umbrella

sold
Clearwater in June
6x6"
oil/primed masonite

I was just in Clearwater last week for my sister's wedding.  My husband and I had lunch at Frenchy's and enjoyed some beach time.  Of course I took many pictures with my phone to inspire future paintings.
