Contemporary Impressionist Landscape Painting Countryside Barns original oil

"In the Country"

I love the sensory experience when painting out. Today you could hear the red wing blackbirds, you could feel the cooler fall air and the warm sun. This is my favorite time of year. We are very fortunate to be experiencing an indian summer.

Seagulls Flock Ocean Beach Painting Contemorary Impressionism

"Seagulls in Flight"

6"x6" oil on panel.

I love the angles of the seagull's wings as they seem to dart around in flight on the air currents along the beach. I painted with a sense of urgency or swiftness in the brushstrokes which seem to mimic the bird's movement

Amish Work Horse Painting Winter Sunset Rural Landscape

sold

"Amish Work Horse" 6"x6" oil on panel. The sun sets on a bitter cold day in January on an Amish Farm. Draft horses are a common scene on these farms. This beautiful giant was silhouetted in the low light of the sunset.

Contemporary Impressionism Clouds Painting Landscape Power Lines

sold

"Cloudline" 6"x6" oil on panel. I have to giggle when I look at this. I love how the clouds look like they are hanging out to dry on a clothesline. A happy little painting. Capturing a fleeting moment makes them fresh and lively. These landscapes are where I am from, my familiar.

Contemporary Impressionist Clouds Painting Midwest Fields Original Oil

sold
"After the Harvest" 6"x6" oil on primed masonite. I painted this a while ago. I am happy with the bold brushwork. Sometimes a painting can be a struggle and sometimes they seem to paint themselves. This was one of those rare and welcome times.

Texas Landscape Painting Contemporary Representation Near Amarillo

sold
"Lonestar Landscape" 6"x6" oil on panel. Oh how I needed a little "green" today. Right now, it is 11 degrees and everything is white. I like winter, but by the end of January/February I am ready for some warmer views. Today I was browsing through some images from our trip out West in '07. This inspired today's painting. Lush green and blue skies. Check back, though, I am sure I have many more winter scenes to paint ahead of me. Stay warm!

Winter Fields Snow Landscape Painting Contemporary Impressionism Rural Farm

"Snowy Fields of Slumber"

 6"x6" oil on panel.

I drive by these feilds at least weekly. I was so surprised as each week passed that this cornfield had not been harvested yet. Most fields were. I guess weather and many things were a factor. I imagined the stress this farmer must have been feeling. I couldn't believe it when I saw that this field was still standing in November. The corn dried and alone waiting. Finally I saw the combines bringing in the corn one day. Now, in January it rests under a blanket of snow till spring. I really like the palette of this day: grays, a hint of blue, violet and yellow ochre. Somber and quiet yet very alive.

Trees in the Breeze Contemporary Landscape Painting

sold
"Breezy Trees of Summer" 6"x6" oil on panel. I love the wispy look of poplar trees. There are many out in the rural areas of the Midwest. I didn't realize how many different varieties of the poplar tree existed till I googled images to make sure of their name.

Contemporary Impressionism Coffeehouse Figures Cafe Interior daily painting

sold
"Coffeehouse Interior" 6"x6" oil on panel. Reposted from 2007. Today was not a successful painting day. I ended up with two scrapers. Every once in a while this will happen. It is hard to not get down about having nothing to show for an afternoon's work. I am much better at calling it a day and looking forward to another day to paint.

"Winter Feeding" 6"x6" oil on panel. Brrr...I really wanted to convey the feel of this day. The sun was setting fast, just a glimpse of pink in the sky and on bits of the snowy pasture. The cattle gathered on the crunchy snow at the bales of hay.

Contemporary Winter Landscape Sledding Child Dog

sold
"Time for Hot Chocolate" 6"x6" oil on panel. We have had some good snowy, winter days, although, very frigid. The kids wore themselves out sledding and running back up the steep hill. I am amazed that the dog didn't seem tired at all. She literally ran circles around them. Anyway, after a few treks up and down the hill, they were ready to warm up with some hot chocolate. Happy New Year! Go sledding if you get a chance. You will feel like a kid again. It is good for the soul!
