Spring Bouquet Floral Painting Impressionism

"Spring Bouquet"
6"x6" oil on primed artist panel

The photo of this painting may look a bit odd.  I honestly didn't have much time or patience to play around and get it just right.  The actual painting is a soft impression of some lovely spring flowers, however the lighting was a bit harsh and created a lot of shadows and may have washed out some of the subtleties.  I had fun playing around with this one.  Sometimes you need to do just that.

Iris Painting Contemporary Impressionism Heidi Malott

"Iris in a different Light"
6"x6" oil on artist panel

This painting look familiar?  Yes, it is very similar to yesterday's painting posted.  When I completed it, I really wanted to see those irises with a warmer background.  Unfortunately, I finished this painting after dark so I will have to re-photograph it in the daylight tomorrow, hope it's not cloudy.

Balloons to Heaven Daily Painting Clouds Sky

Sold
"Balloons to Heaven"
6"x6" primed panel

Many years ago, when my oldest son was quite young, we were leaving the zoo and he let go of his balloon.  Of course there were quite a few tears.  I tried to comfort him by telling him that his balloon probably floated all the way to heaven for someone to have.  It was a nice thought and seemed to make him feel a little better.

Impressionist Clouds Landscape Daily Oil Painting Heidi Malott

"Blustery Skies"
6"x6" oil on primed masonite artboard

Hah!  Interesting note (at least interesting to me :)  Are the clouds the white or the blue?  I didn't notices this quandry till I posted this painting.  The skies were actually a white overcast with the darker clouds rolling through, but now that I look at it, the reverse could work as well.  Interesting...

Children Beach Ocean Contemporary Impressionism Heidi Malott

sold
"Squeals of Delight"
6"x6" oil on primed masonite
One of my favorite things, children splashing in the surf.  I am happy with the soft "pastelness" of this painting.  Very fitting for the sweetness of child's play.

Impressionism Yellow Tulips in the Park Spring Flowers Daily Painting

"Yellow Tulips in the Park"
6"x6" oil on primed masonite artboard
We have many lovely parks in the city.  This is in Foster Park which offers golf, trails, tennis and beautiful gardens surrounded by woods and a river.  I always look forward to seeing the many spring bulbs and lilac bushes.  It is also a beautiful backdrop for senior pictures and weddings.

Impressionist Gardens Spring Summer Flowers Landscape Daily Painting

sold
"Impressionist Fields"
6"x6" oil on primed hardboard
I am sorry to say I did not stand in this field to paint this.  Warmer, spring winds are here so these days are not far off.  Today it is in the 60's (F) and I opened every window in the house.  I painted this in my studio while my toddler napped.  Besides the usual mundane daily activities, we had a full day of playing in the sandbox, blowing bubbles and playing basketball.

Spring Break Beach Young Teen Skim Boarding Surf Impressionism Painting

sold
"Yellow Bikini"
6"x6" oil on artboard
Such a fun piece to paint!  I love beach scenes.  People are either chilling out or on the move.  I try to capture the "essence" of the moment with a little sense of urgency to keep it fresh and lively.

Summer Landscape Hay Bales Impressionism Oil Painting Hazy Hot & Humid

sold
"Hot, Hazy & Humid"
6"x6" oil on primed masonite artboard

Oh, how I will not forget, that I longed for these summer days in the midst of a long snowy winter.  I will not forget, I will not forget...
I do love how the thick humid air and the overcast sky mutes the range of color and value creating a soft, unifying painting.  Before you know it, the sky clears and the details sharpen.  This is one of the reasons why I love to paint, the possibilities of a single landscape are endless.

Hawaii Beach Painting Palm Trees Impressionism

"Little Cove"  6"x6" oil on primed masonite.
Oh boy, does it feel great getting back in the studio today.  Way too much time has slid by since my last post.  Spring weather is trying to make it this way.  The warmer air is very welcome and inspiring.
This location is very close to the previously posted painting, but just about an hour before the sunset.  The changing light makes such a transformation.
