West Virginia Mountains Landscape Daily Oil Painting

"Take me Home"

6x6" oil on masonite art board

My two oldest sons went on a Habitat for Humanity trip for spring break with our church's youth group.  I was very proud of them for giving their time and talents during a time that most of us would prefer to go to the beach.

This painting is quite primitive, I kind of wanted to keep on painting but there was something about it that I liked and didn't want to ruin or enhance it.  I decided to leave it as it is.  I would like to do a few variations of this scene.  The original picture is quite expansive so there is a lot to work with.

Oh, and yes the title is in reference to John Denver, but I will go into that subject in my next painting of West Virginia : )

Hereford Cattle Calf Cows Art Landscape Daily Oil Painting

"Hereford Calf"

6x6" oil on primed masonite art board

I live in the Midwest and see many cows.  I think the Herefords are my favorite to paint.  I love the color of their hides in the sunlight and those sweet white faces.  I like to simplify all the different planes on their enormous bodies

"Steep Sheep"

A dizzying view of sheep at sunset on a very steep landscape.  The sweet, curious creatures cracked me up with their stare.

"Gi-normous Cloud"
6x6" oil on primed art board

This painting may look familiar to some of you.  I have not been able to enjoy much studio time lately so I thought I would post one of my favorites.  Midwest landscapes are my familiar and bring much peace.  I painted this at the end of last summer.  I should be in the studio for a little bit today and hope to post a few new paintings later this week.  Have a good one!
