Snowy Landscape Winter Fields Original Daily Oil Painting

"Quiet Cold"
oil on panel

The sky was heavy with thick clouds but the dampness made it feel much colder than it was.  Just a bit of the sunset slid through the thickness before slipping beyond the horizon.

Just 3 colors were used to make this and of course their variations.

Landscape Oil Painting Impressionism Heidi Malott

"Looking Ahead"
oil on panel

An exercise in focusing on painting what I see.  Not relying on brain memory but really observing.  All while keeping it simple.

"Blustery Skies"

Revisiting some favorites that have been packed away.

Getting into a routine after the new year has been quite the challenge.   I will get back into the swing of things eventually.

Beach Life Original Oil Painting Impressionism

Sunset Stroll
original post 2011
oil on panel

Thinking of warmer places.  This is one of my favorite places to paint.   I could seriously consider being a beach bum with an easel.  Maybe my retirement plan?

First Snow Winter Impressionism Daily Painting

"First Snow"  orig post 2012
oil on panel

I could not wait to paint the first snow in the woods.  The sun was setting.  The few lingering leaves of fall "popped" off the blue shadows on the snow.  This contemporary impression has an abstract feel to it in my efforts to capture the moment without getting too detailed in all the trees.

I encourage you to notice how the painting becomes clearer as you step back a few feet rather than closely from your monitor.

Contemporary Impressionism Autumn Landscape Heidi Malott

"Autumn Highlights"
oil on panel

Interesting, somehow I never posted this back in September.  Must have been a busy week!  I remember this morning well.  I was standing at the kitchen sink enjoying my second cup of coffee and noticed how beautiful the leaves looked with the sun filtering through the trees.  Missing the warm Autumn we had especially on this cold windy day.

"Trail of Light"

I like the muted colors and how this landscape took on an abstract feel with minimized brushstrokes.

Colorful Landscape Original Oil Painting

oil on panel

With the short, dark, cold days of winter I really wanted to play with color.  I spent way too long looking through digital images for inspiration.  I about ran out of time for the day.  I finally found some inspiration and worked on a few that went into some interesting directions.  Whew!

Young Man and His Horse Original Oil Painting

oil on panel

Faded winter light.  Well what an exhausting first day in the studio!  I haven't painted for a couple weeks so I am feeling rusty.  So then I picked a complex subject, whew my brain is tired :)

One of my Favorites from 2016 Rainy Fields Impressionist Oil Painting

"Rainy Fields"
from May 2016
oil on panel  6x6"

I snapped pictures of this scene out my car window in early April.  Spring came in like a lamb.  So warm and sunny.  I could not wait to paint that sky.  I love how the puddles in the foreground reflectes the setting sun in the dark field.

Just a few more days and I will be back in my studio painting.  Happy 2017!

Happy New Year from Heidi Malott's Studio

"Beach Bum"
oil on panel

Happy New Year!  Just a few days left of winter break with the kids home from school.  Really enjoying our lazy days but I am almost ready to get back to our routine.  I really miss painting and I don't think I or my waistline can take anymore over indulgences with all the cookies, candies and party foods we have had with the Holidays.

This painting is a highlight from my ongoing studio special.

All available 6x6" paintings posted from the years 2006-2009 are $85 this includes shipping.  Purchase information can be found at the right or email me and I can send you an invoice if you prefer.  Multiple purchases will be discounted further.
