Portrait Contemporary Oil Painting Child Boy

I have been working on simplifying my portraits and boy do I have a long way to go.  You would think making something less detailed would be easier but it definitely is not, quite the opposite.   I spent way too long on this one and have a lot of work to do but it will be worth the effort.

Portrait Oil Painting Childhood Memories Original Art

Not for Sale
A Boy and His Trucks

I am planning to work on more portraits and still lifes.  They are not my strongest subjects and there is room for improvement.   I always tend to get to tight in my rendering.

Contemporary Impressionism Boys at Play Oil Painting 9x12

Bug Huntin'
9x12"

Making boyhood memories.  My son and his cousin were on a serious mission while camping.  This is actually a study of the painting I did years ago.  Sad to see it stored away.  Hopefully it will find a home one of these days.

Crossing the Creek Contemporary Impressionism Original Oil Painting

"Crossing the Creek"
oil on panel
6x6"

Another scene from our recent camping trip.  I loved how the sunlight filtered through the trees on this crisp Autumn day.  I tried to capture the important details without getting to tight with the detail.  Hopefully just enough to capture the feeling of the moment.

The Magic of Christmas for Child Original Oil Painting

"The Magic of Christmas"
oil on panel
6x6"
2015

I didn't realize before having children that when you do there is immense joy in seeing Christmas through there eyes.  Such a gift!

We always decorate the tree together and as the kids get older we reminisce over the ornaments we have accumulated over the years.  When we are finally finished finding the perfect spot on the tree  (or at this point any open spot left) we sit back and turn the room lights off and enjoy the sparkling tree remembering years past and of loved ones near and far.
God Bless you and yours this Christmas Season.

Seven Child Portrait Oil Study

"Seven"
oil on panel
6x6"

A quick study of a little boy who doesn't sit still for long.  These little studies are so fun.  I feel they represent that constant motion of childhood.  A glimpse of exploration, adventure, bare feet and giggles.

I need to do more of these.

Antique Toy Car Child Contemporary Impressionist Painting

"New Driver"
nfs
6x6" oil on primed masonite

This little car has seen many hours of "driving" from more than ten little children over a period of many years.  As old as the saying is, it still holds true, "they just don't make 'em like they used to".

The sunny day made for a pleasant painting experience.
