Contemporary Impressionism Summer Driving Original Art

"Summer Driving"
original post 2015
Oil
primed masonite
6x6"

I snapped this shot on a hot summer day last week.  We were on our way to a swimmin' hole to cool down.  I wanted to keep the feeling of the motion from cruising down the back roads in a convertible of course.  So I painted this alla prima (all at once) with lively brushstrokes and bold colors of a sunny summer day.

Here we are 3 years later and I find myself varushing a few paintings.  A few in this picture are still available including the "Summer Driving"
How is your July going?  I am wishing things would slow down.  Although I do look forward to painting again in August.

Driving Rain Contemporary Impressionism Original Oil Painting

"Driving Rain"
oil on panel
6x6"

My goal was to keep the brush moving quickly on this one.  The storm broke and the sun burst through the thick sky.

Corner of Sunset and Friday Night Contemporary Oil Painting

sold
Corner of Sunset and Friday Night
6x6 in.
masonite

I had to snap some shots of the sky while my husband and I were driving down the boulevard.  We were out on a Friday shopping for mowers again, yeah, we're exciting like that.  Anyway, the sky was amazing.  This almost has an abstract feel to it.  Very fun.

Contemporary Impressionism Summer Country Road Original Oil Painting

sold
"Summer Country"

6x6 oil on masonite panel

I am pleased with this little one.  Mostly because it is one of my favorite subjects, my familiar...rural landscapes in the summer.  I am like the warm colors against the cool sky and road.  The simplified yet still interesting quadrants of this square layout.  Sometimes they just come together with joy and you have to savor those moments because the process of a painting is not always as joyous, more times than not they can be a struggle and learning experience!  This was on our way to the lake for a camping weekend last summer.

Sunset Snow Landscape Winter Spring Archive Special

sold

"Driving in the Snow"
6x6" oil on primed board
2007 archive special

The weather is confusing, but I will take it.  Spring has entered with summer weather.  Today got up to 80!  It has been about 25 degrees above normal temps for a couple weeks and will be for at least another week.  I thought it would be a nice reminder that we are not having our usual weather.  This painting is from March, about five years ago.

Another reason I am posting a painting from my archive special is because I attempted to paint today and after all my work it was a scraper.  These days can be disappointing.  But I have to remember that it will pass and these "blocks" are temporary.  Here's to another day!

Tennessee Mountains Driving at Dawn Oil Painting

"Tennessee Morning"

A couple weeks ago my family and I were driving through the Tennessee Mountains. It was very early in the morning and the fog from the night before was burning off. The fog still lingered in some areas making the landscape blue and hazy. The sun lit up the bare trees here and there. This was fun and challenging.

This painting is 6"x6" oil on primed masonite artboard.

Driving Highway Dusk Cars Traffic daily oil painting

sold
6"x6" oil on primed masonite. The blur of traffic in the early evening made this painting fun. I would like to do more of this subject matter soon! However, we are in the middle of a move, woo hoo, lots of work, I hope to get back to painting more consistantly this summer~

Impressionist carlights at dusk daily painting

sold
6"x6" oil on masonite. There is something thrilling and romantic about this time of day, when the sun is exiting and the night is creeping in. The car's headlights shine as they make their journey down the road.
