Daily Painting Original Art Heidi Malott

KitKit and Zinnias
oil on panel

Quiet morning in the sunny suburbs.  KitKit on her latest adventure.  I ran out of daylight to get a good picture will post better ones today.

I usually have a pile of little paintings that I start and do not finish.  Usually they get primed and painted over.  Every once in a while I will try to "resusitate", such as this one.

Abstract Art Suburban Sunset Original Oil Painting Heidi Malott

Suburban Sunset
oil on panel 2018
6x6 inch

My husband and I try to go for a walk every evening.   One night last week the sun was setting after a rain.  The sky was so peachy and made everything in the landscape so saturated with color.  I had to give it a go with this simplified almost abstract little painting.   A fun quirky piece :D

Watching the Parade Contemporary Impressionism Oil Painting

Watching the Parade
6x6 inch
oil/primed masonite panel

The Memorial Day parade was very special yesterday.  I enjoyed watching the parade and of course the people, waving their flags, that lined the route as well.

Looks Like Rain Autumn Fields Landscape Heidi Malott Original Paintings

Sold

"Looks Like Rain"
6x6" oil on gesso primed masonite

I loved the muted Autumn colors on this overcast afternoon before the rain.  The wind and rain knocked most of the leaves down and most of the fields are harvested.

Garnier's Paris Opera Impressionist Painting Heidi Malott

"Visiting the Paris Opera Garnier"
6x6" oil on gesso panel

First, I must thank my dear cousin, Mary Kay, for sharing photos of her recent travels to France.  When my youngest has flown from the nest I plan to travel to Europe and paint to my heart's content.

This amazing opera house was built in 1860.  One of my favorite artists, Degas, found his inspiration here for his stunning ballet paintings.  If you get a chance, check out an image of this opera house, it is breathtaking.  Here, I chose to focus on a more intimate image of a tourist on the steps of  The Paris Opera.

Silverton Colorado Painting Red House Mountain Landscape oil painting a day

Sometimes after living with a painting for a few days, something about it nags at you and you realize some changes may be needed. Just a few tweaks and somtimes a major overhaul. Thankfully not the latter on this one, but now, I feel better when I look at this painting. 6"x6" oil on primed masonite. Silverton, Colorado.

Architecture House Dwell Red Door Sunset daily painting oil

sold
6"x6" oil on primed art board. "Red Door" This is one of my favorite paintings. I think because of the subject matter, the time of day and the process. I am so drawn to homes with unique architectural character. So many older homes have style and art was a part of the process. An important thing that I wanted to achieve when I painted this, was to use the least amount of brushstrokes possible. Carefully placing each stroke with purpose. This sounds like it could make the painting too "tight" or "uptight" but the opposite is true. It wont have that overworked feel to it, which can sometimes happen. It is not always an easy task. It is possible to have enough brushstrokes in one painting to make 2 or 3 paintings.

Snow Landscape daily oil painting Yellow House

"Yellow House"

6"x6" oil on masonite. I painted this view through my window today. I would liked to have painted outside today but the high is only 14 degrees. Maybe it will reach a "balmy" 34 degrees soon.
