6"x6" oil on primed artist board. This nostalgic ice cream stand located on Broadway is one of my town's mainstays. I believe it is part of a franchise and it has been around for as long as I can remember. It is always a sure sign that summer is around the corner when the boards are taken down from the windows and the open sign is out. As with yesterday's painting, my goal was to stay fresh and pure with minimal brushstrokes. Thanks for looking. More interesting info: I just googled Zesto Ice Cream to find out that the first one was in Evansville, IN in 1949. It was a franchise that died young but a few are still around and locally owned, so the name lives on. Some Zestos that still exist are located in Atlanta, GA, Colmbia, SC and Kansas City. Architecture House Dwell Red Door Sunset daily painting oil

6"x6" oil on primed art board. "Red Door" This is one of my favorite paintings. I think because of the subject matter, the time of day and the process. I am so drawn to homes with unique architectural character. So many older homes have style and art was a part of the process. An important thing that I wanted to achieve when I painted this, was to use the least amount of brushstrokes possible. Carefully placing each stroke with purpose. This sounds like it could make the painting too "tight" or "uptight" but the opposite is true. It wont have that overworked feel to it, which can sometimes happen. It is not always an easy task. It is possible to have enough brushstrokes in one painting to make 2 or 3 paintings.

6"x6" oil on masonite. "From my Backyard" The kids are out of school for summer, yeah! We have already been "fun" busy with baseball, swimming, a little camping, the drive in theater. I am hoping to stay disciplined with getting at least one little painting done 5 days a week. I will get up early and paint before the kids are up or while they are having breakfast or as I did today, painting from my backyard, while my daughter plays with a friend.

6"x6" oil on primed masonite. I just love these hot sunny days when billowing clouds roll in. It is so dramatic. You can just feel the tension of a storm brewing. Then, surprisingly a sprinkle in the sunshine and they roll on.
