This fellow fisher was passing through on his way to a favorite fishing spot.  We are fortunate to have egrets in the Midwest although they are the smaller egret or heron.

Twilight is one of my most favorite times to oaint.  The colors are soft and saturated.  Yummy!

I usually forget to take pictures of my progress.  I will work on that.  This little landscape was  fun alla prima.  So much concentration on placing each little brushstroke with intention.  An enjoyable and tiring journey.

I can't think of a better place for kids to play, outside in nature.  Especially today where we are consumed with screens of all kinds.  I believe it helps undo all that screen time.  Makes them, think, discover, get dirty and truly enjoy themselves.  I grew up by a river, a field and a pond and my best memories are being outside all day long. 

This painting got frustrating for me.  I am rusty from not painting in a while and I feel I could have painted 3 paintings in the time and brushstrokes of this 1 painting.  Makes me want to paint this scene again soon.

I remember as a child in elementary school I had a teacher that suggested we use as many colors in our crayon box in one drawing as possible.  I was confused at first but it was like she gave us the keys to the candy store.   I unlearned something that day.  To go past the lines, outside the box.  I will never forget that day or that teacher.

There is more than meets the eye initially and it is amazing.

I drive by this field almost everyday and have painted it many times.  The landscape changes subtly or drastically due to the time of day, the season and the ever changing sky.

Dog days of summer.   Trying to keep my work loose.  Especially after a break from painting.   It's a fine line from too tight and too loose and finding balance.  Argh!!

I really like the backdrop of trees behind the pool.  So pretty.

I was heading home from a school function and stopped in my tracks when I saw the sky.  I took pictures from the parking lot for painting inspiration.   Wish I could have painted right there.  I need to do that one day soon.  

I love how the sun caught the setting sun.  The landscape was so soft and muted at twilight.

Summer is officially over when school starts, but we are holding on to the fact that it is August and there is still so much more to enjoy.

I am back to work in the studio and at the easel on location for most of the week.  Weekends, we hope to continue to enjoy camping with family and friends, swimming, and especially our new grandbaby!  Hop over to my instagram to see him @heidimalottart
