Contemporary Painting Driving the Sunny Boulevard

Hey!  I'm back, I know, it has been so long since I have posted a painting.  All is fine here.  Just getting through this cold and snowy winter.  I have not been able to paint.  I would try and it just didn't flow.  I tried painting through it, but my heart just wasn't there.  So, I took a break.  It is kind of funny to see what happens after not painting for a while.  It kind of looks like someone hijacked my blog because this painting is a bit different for me.  It is all a process and blogging is such a cool way to record an artist's journey.  I hope to get back on a roll, I miss blogging and I miss the interaction with so many great people out there in the blogoshere.

Winter Snowy Landscapes Contemporary Oil Painting

"Winter Light"
6x6" oil gesso primed panel

The overcast sky in the late afternoon made the lighting very dim.  The soft pinks of the the sunset made the clouds look slightly like the aurora borealis of the northern skies.

Wet Paint Barn Study Alla Prima Contemporary Impressionism

"Wet Paint"
6" squared oil on gesso board.

The new year is off and running.  The older I get the more I appreciate trying to live in the moment and not rush through things too much, to embrace today, even if it is full of the mundane.  Tomorrow will be here soon enough.  Things have been hectic and I have not painted much.  It has made me frustrated that I haven't been painting daily, but I will find a balance soon.  I hope the new year is finding you well.  Cheers!

Snowy Landscape Fox Island County Park Indiana Heidi Malott

sold

"Fox Island in January"  I painted this alla prima (all at once) which is a good exercise in laying each brush stroke down lightly and moving on.  If you don't do this the paint tends to get muddy.
This park has so much to offer.  Hiking, swimming, picnics in summer and a great place for cross country skiing in the winter.  Here is an open grassy area that you are sure to see deer on occasion.

Winter Landscape Contemporary Impressionism Heidi Malott

"Winter Corn Field"  6"squared. oil on primed artboard.
As you can see this painting was done in the same general area and same time of day as yesterday's painting.  Even though it was another overcast winters day, there were some great things going on.  The atmosphere made the colors so soft and subtle.  I am really pleased with how the sky turned out.  It was a challenge, to capture the colors of the overcast clouds.  They were soft and blended right into the blue in areas.
