Autumn Landscape Painting Original Art Spring Mill State Park

October Hike
Spring Mill State Park
oil on panel
6x6 inch

I painted this a while back and was not happy with it, so it sat on a shelf for a long time.  Last week I started to paint over it and decided to see if I could make improvements instead.  After using warmer tones, I was so much happier with this one.  I am glad I didn't paint over this one.

Contemporary Art Friday Walk Nature Preserve Landscape Oil Painting

"Friday Walk"
2016
oil on panel 6x6"

A few weeks ago my husband and I were hiking at a nearby nature preserve.  The weather was unusually warm for November.  It was so peaceful I hope to paint there again soon.

Nature Walk Turkey Run State Park Evening Sun Oil Painting

Soft Light
oil on panel
6x6"

The glow of the early evening sun filtering through the trees at one of my favorite places.  I am considering going back into this painting with just a few thick and juicy strokes.  I will keep it in view so I can ponder that thought.  My favorite thing in this painting is the thin ray of light outlining the one side of tree in the middleground.

Summer Hike Impressionism Contemporary Landscape Heidi Malott

"Summer Hike"
6"x6" oil on primed masonite

When painting a landscape it is easy to be overwhelmed by all the details.  Sometimes I have to write a simple message on a post it note and stick it right on my easel:  "Simplify" or "KISS" (keep it simple sister!)
