Winter Landscape Snow Contemporary Impressionism Heidi Malott
"Winter Skies"
There is something so peaceful and quiet in the Midwest landscape during winter. The air is cold, the clouds hang low and the fresh, soft snow acts as a buffer to any noise.

Snowy Ridge and Randy Higbee Gallery Exhibit Costa Mesa, CA
"Snowy Ridge"
Winter temps are here to stay. I do love the contrast of the cool blues of the reflective sky on the snow and the warm glow of the setting or rising sun as it shines on the dry grasses and scrub.

Palm Tree Painting Contemporary Impressionism Heidi Malott
sold
"Palms in Hawaii"
There are so many varieties of palm trees, but they all conjure up the same feeling for me. A sign of a warm, tropical place and the polar opposite of my current location.

Contemporary Impressionist Landscape Green Study
Study of greens in an overcast environment.

Painting on an overcast day can be a challenge. I enjoy the exercise, though, of trying to capture those subtle grayed down greens.

Southwest Landscape Arizona Contemporary Impressionism Painting
"Storm Clouds"
I loved being able to see the storms that were miles away move along the horizon. Sort of eerie yet very cool.

Chickens Roosters Painting Large 9x12 Contemporary Impressionism
"Feeding Her Chickens" 9"x12" Oil on primed artboard.
One of the few larger paintings on this blog. This painting was done a couple years ago, so it is dry and ready for a home. I have to say it is one of my favorites due to the rich color, texture and subject matter.

I have been jumping around on subject matter lately. I like to mix things up so I don't get in a rut. So I enjoy checking out my archives from past trips. Thankfully I was able to plein air paint a lot this fall. The weather is changing quickly though and I have been back in the studio the last week or so due to a very busy toddler, colder weather and my oldest who is recovering from a tonsillectomy. Never a dull moment around here. I hope to do some more Southwest paintings over the next few days. So stop in anytime to see the latest "still wet" paintings.
