Open Air Farmer's Market 8x8" Contemporary Impressionism Heidi Malott

Fresh Produce
8x8"
oil on canvas panel

detail:

Ok, photographing wet paint on canvas is harsh as you can see.  I am happy to say this painting looks much better in person.  I am enjoying painting on the larger panels but I will have to order more soon.  This one is a bit different from my usual.  As you can see I let a lot of the underlying sketch which is quite dark show in the painting.  This gives a bold contrast, but please note, I never use the color black straight from a tube, way too harsh and nothing in nature is that dark.  Please do not buy a tube of black paint, mix your own, it will be richer and not too dark.  I mix cadmium orange with French ultramarine blue at varying strengths for brown all the way to my darkest

Sunny California Contemporary Impressionism 8x8" Heidi Malott

sold
"Sunny CA"
oil on panel
8x8"

Bits of light and color,  Painting this was like building a puzzle.  Studying the shapes and color then blocking them in place.  Fun, fun fun :)

Farmers Market Fruit Vegetable Stand Figures Original Oil Painting

Morning Market Stop
6x6 inch
oil/primed hardboard

I am happy with the simplified details and strong morning light.  Of course I spent way too much time trying to get an image that best shows this painting, but I think it looks much better in real life.  hmmm...wet paint and dark shadows are difficult to photograph.

"Fresh Market Fruit" pears daily painting

6"x6" oil on masonite. A local farmer's market has their produce displayed beautifully, in little wooden crates and tissue paper, just in time for Christmas!
